Nelson Admiral 2010 (SORRY, SOLD OUT)
The Admiral is a classic blend of red grape varieties from our estate combined to produce a rich and smooth wine.
Nose: vibrant ripe black fruits with scent of violets and spice.
Palate: attractive dark cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas follow through onto the palate and are supported by fine tannins and soft spicy oak flavours.
Vintage: The grapes were hand harvested on April 29th 2010 from free draining stony alluvial soils, averaging about 24 Brix.
Wine Making: The grapes were de-stemmed, crushed and then transferred to an open top fermenter. Traditional hand plunging of the cap was carried out throughout the ferment. The grapes stayed for 14 days in the fermenter with a period of post ferment maceration to extract tannins from the skins. The juice was then moved to French oak barrels where it aged for 11 months. The wine went through full malolactic fermentation in the spring and then blended, filtered and bottled in March 2011.
Sulphur: This wine is made with minimal levels of sulphur/SO2/preservative 220.
Vegetarian: This wine is suitable for vegetarian diets.
Acidity: 5.3 gms/L
Residual Sugar: 2g/L
"Certified organic, this deeply coloured red is a blend of merlot, malbec and cabernet franc, French oak-aged. Vibrantly fruity, it has smooth blackcurrant, plem and spice flavours, and lots of drink-young charm.««« Stars"

"Very dark, near saturated black-red colour with purple hues. This has a cool, leafy, blackcurrant and dark plum fruited nose, the aromas fresh and clean. Medium-weighted, the palate shows leafy blackcurrant, mint and capsicum flavours with fresh acidity prominent. A fine, supple, tannic thread underlines the fruit and provides good texture, presence and length. A blend of organically certified Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc fermented to 13.7% alc., the wine aged 11 months in French oak barrels. Serve with antipasto, pizza, pasta and herb marinated red meat dishes over the next 3-4+ years (20 Jul 2011)" ««« Stars
